Rewrites = heart transplant... OR DOES IT?!

OMG, you guys. You guys, OMG. Go and buy A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix. Go now. Go right now. Seriously, when have I ever lead you astray? You go buy it, I'll wait here.

Okay, you're back? You got a copy? Good. Moving on. Yesterday I cut almost a chapter and half out of Wild, which was painful. Hopefully what I replaced it with is good and adds to my "spice up the plot" quota. I'm not sure yet. It's like I'm halfway through conducting a major operation and I've had to stop because I can't remember if I'm taking out the heart or the liver. I do think a lot of what I'm cutting out is unnecessary waffle (or bad cholesterol, if you will), but it's quite scary to think I might be replacing it all with even more unnecessary waffle. Let's look at the evidence:

Chapters rewritten: 10. Technically it's twelve, but I cut one chapter altogether and merged two more into one.
Menacing encounters with werewolves: 3
Number of times Lizzie has resolved to quit drugs/break up with Harris and failed to do so: Countless.
Sinister predictions of Doom from strangers: 2
References to teenagers being killed by clowns: 1

Chocolate: is there anything it can't do?

Stolen from Rachel Vincent's blog. I have to say, while I'm a huge advocate of chocolate in general, I think it got it wrong here. Me? Sophisticated? High class? Loves being around people? No...

What Your Taste in Chocolate Says About You

You are sophisticated, modern, and high class.

Your taste is refined, but you are not picky.

You are often the first to try something new.

You are passionate and full of life.

You fall in love easily, and you tend to have whirlwind relationships.

Your passion sometimes does get the better of you. You have a crazy temper!

You love being around people. Friendships are important to you.

You feel lost when you're by yourself... so you tend to avoid being alone.

Sharks: Is there anything they can't eat?

Nome is hot. Nome is tired. Nome has hayfever. Nome can't think of intelligent post.

Dear Muse...

... Here's the deal. It's my head. Therefore, it's my rules. And if I say we're going to continue to rewrite Wild, that's what we're going to do. Here are a list of things we're not going to do:

1. We're not going to start rewriting Fire and Moonlight ... yet. That's for after Wild.
2. We're not going to start writing cosy mysteries for Mum ... yet.
3. We're not going to start writing short stories about the trials of being a superhero's secretary ... yet.
4. We're not going to carry on with Death for the Born until after Wild.
5. We're definitely not going to start writing that weird idea with the island and the gods and the girl who can shapeshift. Yet.

Love,
Nome

This time I'm not procrastinating*

Observant readers will have observed that my word meter for the Wild re-write is not rising. That's because I've been reading this book:

This is seriously one of the best books on writing I've come across. One of my goals for the re-write was to spice up the plot and make it more complex, and I think I'm going to achieve that rather neatly now I'm actually thinking about it, instead of just word-vomiting everywhere and hoping a decent plot emerges. So it's onwards, to victory!

I'm holed up at my parents' until tomorrow. I've left the Sims at home. There's nothing to come between me and some awesome writing except Fergus, who's currently purring loud enough to wake the dead, presumably because he supports my efforts.

*Playing mahjong doesn't count as procrastination. It's good for my brain.

Air kisses all round!

Thank you, everyone, for your birthday wishes. I actually had a really lovely day, not withstanding toothache and being at work. And I'm off work all next week! Yay! Serious writing will commence.

And in lieu of the real, well-thoughtout post on succubi and incubi I intend to post next week, here's a fun fact for you all to discuss at leisure:

Cannibalism is not illegal in the UK or USA.

That's FACT, people.

Happy Birthday to Me!

A quarter of a century old today!
